Diagnostic features
Stems erect to decumbent, to 50cm.
Leaves narrowly ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, cordate to rounded at base, crenate, sessile to shortly petiolate.
Calyx with rather sparse eglandular hairs.
Corolla 10-18mm, blue.

Chromosome number: 2n=30, 32.

Habitat
Native; fens, wet meadows,by ponds and rivers.

Distribution
Locally common throughout most of British Isles.

Hybrids
- Scutellaria x hybrida Strail (= Scutellaria galericulata x Scutellaria minor) occurs locally near the parents in South England and South Ireland; it is intermediate in corolla and leaf characters and highly sterile, but vegetatively vigorous.
