Scientific name: Scutellaria minor Huds.
Diagnostic features Stems erect to decumbent, to 25cm. Leaves narrowly ovate, entire or with 1-2 serrations on each side near base, rounded to cordate or subhastate at base, shortly petiolate. Calyx with eglandular hairs or glabrous. Corolla 6-10mm, pale pinkish-purple.
Chromosome number: 2n=(28), c.32.
Habitat Native; wet heaths and openwoodland on acid soils.
Distribution Locally frequent in South & West Britain and South Ireland, rare and very scattered elsewhere in England and Jersey.

Hybrids - Scutellaria x hybrida Strail (= Scutellaria galericulata x Scutellaria minor) occurs locally near the parents in South England and South Ireland; it is intermediate in corolla and leaf characters and highly sterile, but vegetatively vigorous. |
