Diagnostic features
Stems erect, to 60cm.
Stem-leaves 1-2(2.5)cm.
Calyx 3-6mm, with lower teeth 1-2mm.
Corolla 10-15mm in bisexual flowers.

Chromosome number: 2n=48, 72.

Habitat
Native; dry banks and rough grassland, usually calcareous.

Distribution
Local in Central-east and Southeast England, extending West to Pembs, Channel Islands, formerly Yorks, decreasing.

Note
Alsohas more-branched flower-clusters and more strongly toothed leaves than Clinopodium ascendens.
