Diagnostic features
Differs from Salvia pratensis in lower leaves often distinctly lobed.
Longest hairs on calyx white, eglandular.
Corolla corolla without or with few glandular hairs, open and 10-15mm, or cleistogamous and 6-12mm.

Chromosome number: 2n=54.

Habitat
Native; dry grassy and barish rough ground, roadsides, dunes.

Distribution
Rather frequent in South & East Britain North to Central Scotland, North Wales, South & East Ireland, Channel Islands, rare and decreasing in Central England.
