Greater Bladderwort

Scientific name: Utricularia vulgaris L.

Diagnostic features
Stems of 1 sort, free-floating, to 1m.
Quadrifids with long/short arm ratio 1.8-2.8, with 2 short arms diverging at mostly 85-130°.
Glands in corolla-spur on abaxial side only.
Corolla yellow to bright yellow; upper lip c.11 x 10mm; lower lip 12-15 x 14mm, with reflexed margins (fresh material only); spur 7-8mm.
Pedicel 8-15mm, recurved but not elongating after flowering.

Chromosome number: (2n=36, 44).

Habitat
Native; usually base-rich still or slow water.

Distribution
Scattered in Britain and Ireland, commonest in East England, perhaps absent from North Scotland.
