Scientific name: Utricularia australis R. Br.
Diagnostic features Differs from Utricularia vulgaris in stems to 60cm. Quadrifids with 2 short arms diverging at mostly 100-157°. Glands present on inside of both abaxial and adaxial sides of spur. Corolla pale yellow to yellow, the lower lower lip with flat or slightly upturned margins. Pedicel 8-15mm at flowering, becoming sinuous and 10-30mm after.
Chromosome number: (2n=44).
Habitat Native; usually acidic still or slow water.
Distribution Scattered throughout Britain and Ireland, commonest in West & North Britain. Distributions of Utricularia vulgaris and Utricularia australis are unclear as distinction is uncertain in absence of flowers, which are rarely produced in North Britain.
