Scientific name: Helleborus orientalis Lam
Diagnostic features Rhizomatous. Stems to 60cm, erect. Flowers 5-7cm across, saucer-shaped. Sepals yellowish-green to purplish.
Chromosome number: (2n=32).
Habitat Introduced-naturalized; much grown in gardens, sometimes naturalized in woods and parks.
Distribution West Kent, Surrey, East Gloucs, Kirkcudbrights and Dunbarton; Turkey.
Note Cultivated plants represent a complex group of segregates and hybrids between them.
