Vulnerable Occurs in rain- and gallery forest of western Africa, where the distribution is patchy because it breeds only in colonies in damp shaded fissures in rock walls, cliffs, caves, and (occasionally) large fallen hollow trees within the forest. Its broken range reaches from Guinea to Côte d'Ivoire, and the total population is probably below 2500 pairs. Much of the decline is caused by degradation or disappearance of the forest, while also capturing for the bird trade and disturbance of the breeding colonies by man play a role, threats still continuing.
